Sunday, February 03, 2013 It ain't, but it might, but it probably won't. When you factor in the gross lowering of the bar that comes with surfing in Florida, you can imagine yourself possibly donning the neoprene and hopefully paddling into the chill, imagining that perhaps, maybe, some little something or other might chance by and let you have a second or two of enjoyment. Of course, if you're one of those "fun fun fun" self-promoters, you can easily bend the rules to the point where you can trumpet your session as if you just paddled in from a six foot day at Off The Wall with only two other people out. What's up with them mopes, anyway? I'm pretty sure what they're doing isn't even surfing. What they're doing is engaging in the tired old litany of "I got something you don't have, so I'm cooler than you!" And the really evil ones do it strictly for personal monetary gain, either indirectly through revenue generated by click-through ads, or directly via cash sales. It's not the slightest bit different than the douchebag with no social skills driving a Lambo. Or one of them idiots in a go-fast boat roaring along just off the beach so everyone can get a good close look at their superior coolness. The politics of envy. The actual being and doing have nothing at all to do with it and can be completely eliminated at either no cost whatsoever, or even a substantial gain. They merely serve as a vehicle for the real agenda. What really matters is the reaction in the people around them. The generation of envy. Yeah right, nobody's gonna see that I'm actually a worthless flounder under this disguise. Funfunfun! WhooHoo! DP! Secret Sandbar! The guy having the most fun is the best surfer! A bad day surfing is better than a good day working! Look what I got! Uh, yeah. Yeah sure. Tell me more about what I didn't get that you did. That'll definitely make me a believer and cause me to wish I was just like you. Sure it will. And when you're done here, be sure and go to a place that has real waves and try it on those guys. Your cunning plan can't possibly fail to work.
